The selectively colorized coin features a breathtaking proof finish. The coin’s smooth edge is inscribed PINBALL WIZARD. Mintage is limited to only 8,110 pieces. Obverse: The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II located on the obverse was crafted by artist Jody Clark. The portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II, ” D. ” “2 POUNDS” and “2021. Clark is notably the first Royal Mint sculptor to create a definitive monarch coinage portrait in more than a century. Reverse: The reverse is inspired by the 1969 hit song, “Pinball Wizard” and the band’s onstage destructive antics. A Rickenbacker guitar adorned with a colorized Union Jack is fashioned into a pinball game, with flippers, a ball and plunger. The background speaker stack is smashed, with the jagged opening framing the Mod symbol and “THE WHO” logo. The image is credited to renowned British artist Henry Gray, whose additional designs for the Mint include the 2020 British Red Cross and the 2017 Royal Flying Corps commemorative coins.
