Silver 1815 3 Shilling Bank of England Token. Obverse: Laureate portrait of King George III right, legend around. Lettering: GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA REX Translation: George the Third by the Grace of God King Engraver: Lewis Pingo Reverse: Legend above denomination and date, all within an oak wreath. These Bank of England tokens were struck to a standard weight of 227 grains, comprising 202.4 grains pure silver and 24.6 grains alloy. The era of official circulating token coinage that began with the countermarking of Spanish American 8 Reales, would end with the final issue of this type when the New Coinage began to appear.
