The design created in 1817, known as the Three Graces, is based upon Greek mythology. The Three Graces, Euphrosyne (mirth), Aglaia (elegance) and Thalia (youth and beauty), were the daughters of Zeus, the King of the Gods. Wyon’s recasting of the lovely ladies as a metaphor for England, Scotland and Ireland launched his career as a medallic artist. This Three Graces bar is the second release of the Great Engravers Collection. Mintage of this precious metal masterpiece is limited to just 1,200 and only 1,002 are available outside of the UK. The bullion bar is minted from 100 Troy oz. The bar is a product of The Royal Mint of Great Britain. The bar is struck with a stunning brilliant uncirculated finish. The bar measures a generous 132.7 x 78.8 mm. Magnificent Contemporary Interpretation of the Classic Three Graces Design. Obverse: The Three Graces are posed standing together on the obverse holding fruit and blossoms, in an arcade styled with Greek Doric columns. The Greek meander border which flows above and below the trio unites the imagery of both sides of the bar. The dramatic image is the work of sculptor Daniel Thorne, a Product Designer at The Royal Mint. Reverse: The reverse surface is ornamented with an intricate meander pattern borrowed from the style of ancient Greek art, with the bar’s weight, content and purity, “100 OZ 999.9 FINE SILVER, ” boldly positioned at the center.
