WW1 BRITISH COLLECTABLE, THE SILVER BULLET or THE ROAD TO BERLIN GAME
For offer, a superb condition example, of a genuine and original, WW1 period game, called “The Silver Bullet” or “The Road to Berlin”. Manufactured in Britain in 1914 by’R. Farmer & Sons’, this was a very popular game throughout the first world war, as was a similar game also made by’Farmers’ entitled “Sky Pirates, a Duel in the Sky”, which involved moving a ball bearing’fired’ from an’R. Biplane fighter, safely along a path to reach a’Zeppelin’. Both games involved controlling a steel ball bearing, along a track, and endeavoring to avoid the pitfalls along the way. This game took the dexterity format, and made it a competitive activity, with the rules being that you begin the game with an army of 500 soldiers, and every time the ball bearing falls down a hole, you subtract the number printed adjacent to the hole from your remaining soldier count, with the goal of arriving in’Berlin’ with the largest number of soldiers as possible. Considering that this was a very popular game at its time, the’Silver Bullet’ game is actually becoming very difficult to find in an acceptable (and affordable) condition. This piece is complete with its original wooden frame, the glass panel front, and its ball bearing, it is of a good size, and very tactile. The condition is very good for a 100+ year old toy, with marks and minor loss to the wooden frame (see photographs above), the green & pink colours of the game board are still strong, with some fading and soiling to the printed cardboard rear board, but it is still as addictive as ever, as I have been unable to complete the game all the way to’Berlin’. Dimensions: 9 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ x 1 (24.2cm x 16.5cm x 2.5cm). The item “WW1 BRITISH COLLECTABLE, THE SILVER BULLET or THE ROAD TO BERLIN GAME” is in sale since Sunday, April 18, 2021.
